The word hijab or hijaab means the clothing that follows the Command of Allah(swt) to cover as dictated through His Most Holy Qur'an. So hijab is the general term for clothing covering the body, however hijab now commonly means a head scarf.

A khimar is what one wears as the head covering, triangular or circular, which also covers the ears, neck and breast, however, a khimar is now commonly refered to as a long circular head covering.
