Cotton - It can take the heat.
Cotton is a natural fiber from the seed capsule of the cotton plant. Cotton is cool, comfortable and breathes. As a summer fabric cotton is king, since it can absorb up to 20 percent of its own weight in moisture without feeling damp. It can also be worn anytime of the year.
On the down side cotton wrinkles. With the type of garments we Muslims wear, wrinkles are a problem. Not to worry, recent blends of cotton with polyester and other fabrics such as lycra have made cotton more wrinkle resistant. This added component makes for a better presentation.
Cotton is easily laundered even in hot water, a lesser temperature for colored cottons and is best pressed with a steam iron on a wool setting. Mixed blends sometimes require less heat. I remember in years past, we used to sprinkle water on our cotton clothing roll it up and then iron after. This process smoothed out the wrinkles.
Uses of cotton includes, blouses, skirts, pants, dresses and curtains. Many fabrics such as denim, gauze, poplin, voile, etc. are made of cotton.
